Babies born prematurely are prone to several diseases. One of them is Retinopathy of Prematurity, a leading cause of blindness due to retinal vessel immaturity. These fragile vessels can be imaged with optical coherence tomography, a non-invasive imaging tool. Subsequently, using volume-rendering software, we produced a three dimensional reconstruction of normal and abnormal vessels in these infants. These findings have helped clinicians to understand from another perspective the dynamic changes occurring in this serious disease affecting the eyes of these babies.
